Yacht marble restoration in Portugal, on the Atlantic coast
Yacht marble restoration in Portugal concerns yachts that have left the enclosed Mediterranean. Lisbon, on the Tagus estuary, and Vilamoura, on the Algarve coast, are Atlantic ports: swell, stronger tides and a climate that allows boating almost all year round.
Our team travels to your yacht in Lisbon and in Vilamoura, alongside in the marina or wherever the captain prefers.
Portugal in a yacht’s itinerary
For a long time, large yachts tended to pass Portugal on their way between the Mediterranean and the Caribbean or North America, stopping in Gibraltar rather than on the Portuguese coast. That is changing as Portugal invests in facilities for larger yachts and as owners discover the Algarve and the coast around Lisbon as destinations in their own right.
Lisbon has several marinas along the north bank of the Tagus, from Belém to Doca de Alcântara, close to the cruise terminal, and further upriver Marina Parque das Nações. The river has a marked channel, tides and shallows, and berth choice depends on the yacht’s length and draught. Cascais and Oeiras, at the mouth of the estuary, are often used as alternatives.
Vilamoura, opened in 1974, is the largest marina in Portugal. A dedicated area for larger yachts, with 68 berths for yachts from 20 to 40 metres in the outer harbour, has been under development there. The Algarve’s mild winters also make it a place where some yachts spend the off-season.
For marble, the Atlantic adds its own wear: more salt in the air, more movement at sea and more condensation in bathrooms after a passage. A yacht that has just arrived from a crossing or a long delivery often needs etch marks, limescale and small chips addressed before guests come on board.
How our travelling team works in Portugal
Interventions in Portugal are carried out today by the travelling team of Les Traitements du Sud, the stone-care company that looks after yachts on the Côte d’Azur, under the EU freedom to provide services. We have no Portuguese office or address; the team travels to your yacht and works in English with the crew.
- On arrival after a passage, to treat etch marks, limescale and small damage before the next guests.
- During a winter stay in Vilamoura or Lisbon, when the interior is free for a complete polish and protection.
- Alongside in the marina, the most common case, working cabin by cabin.
- In a yard or a workshop near the yacht, when she is out of the water or when a removable piece needs more time.
Yachts heading back into the Mediterranean can be followed by the same team in Spain, starting with Puerto Banús on the other side of Gibraltar.
Portugal: frequent questions
Can you meet a yacht in Lisbon before or after an Atlantic crossing?
Yes, if we know the expected arrival or departure window. Send us the captain’s plan and we will schedule the visit while the yacht is alongside.
Do you work in Portuguese?
We work in English with crews. Portuguese pages are not available yet.
Is winter a good time for marble work in the Algarve?
Yes. A yacht spending the winter in Vilamoura is the ideal case for heavier work: floors, stairs and bathrooms can be done without guests and without rushing.
